No rush on striker deals for Stags

Mansfield Town manager Adam Murray's attempts to boost his strikeforce continue, but he insists he is in no rush until the right deals can be struck.

Murray was last week reported to have made bids on two front men, but the deals are still to move forward.

“The two centre forwards we are speaking to at the minute are totally different,” said Murray.

“They both bring different things to the table. Both, in my eyes, would make us better and give us better options.

“They would give us a platform to score different kinds of goals.”

However, he added: “The deals have got to be right and we’re working really hard on them. But I won’t do something that’s not right for the football club.

“If we feel the value for the player and the personal terms is right for the football club and it makes the player feel that he is valued at Mansfield Town then the deals will be done.

“They’ve been going on for over a week and they are very close, but very far away. We are trying to iron out the little bits. If that can be done by both parties then we will move on it. If not we’ll move on to the next one.”

Murray continued: “What we’ve already found this summer is that everyone seems to be going for the same players.

“The targets we set out on, we’ve already lost a couple as, with all due respect, bigger clubs have come in and taken them. We can’t do anything about that.

“We are trying to sell our football club and our brand. We know we don’t have to go out and sign loads of X-Factor players. We have to sign good players who are ingredients that make the whole thing better.

“I feel if we can get three or four players that give us a bit of an edge and something a bit different, that will be our next step to improve on the season we’ve just had.

“I would have liked it to have been done about a week ago, but it doesn’t work like that.

“The quicker the better so we can chill out a little bit. But if that takes all summer and it’s not right and we haven’t got the deals we need, we will keep working. There is no time frame on it. It will be done when it’s done.”
