RESERVES FOOTBALL: Demolition puts rivals on notice
AFTER a two-week break due to cup commitments, HUCKNALL ROLLS LEISURE RESERVES returned to action in Division One of the Notts Senior League with a 5-0 demolition of Awsworth Reserves.
Within two minutes of the start, Danny Gamble’s run and sublime cross almost broke the deadlock but just six minutes later, an almost identical surge brought the opener as an Awsworth defender put through his own net.
On 22 minutes, top scorer Reece Jackson blasted home and for the rest of the half, only desperate defending from the home side kept Rolls at bay.
Into the second period and Rolls were looking menacing on the flanks with substitute Paul Parkinson marauding down the left and Dan Lee on the right. It was the latter whose cross was met by Jackson for a deft header that fell at the feet of Gaz Hayes to make it three.
By now it was one-way traffic and Jackson added a fourth before Phil Gouldby, with an accomplished finish, netted the fifth five minutes from time.
Rolls are now up to fourth with a game in hand and looking set to mount a title challenge.
ON the face of it, LINBY COLLIERY WELFARE RESERVES looked to have dropped two points in a 1-1 stalemate with FC 05 in Division Two of the NSL.
But it proved a fair return after a cagey clash against a side who, despite their mid-table position, are a decent outfit.
Linby broke the deadlock five minutes into the second half as Alistair Murray fired a 25-yard arrow into the bottom corner.
But their lead didn’t last long as, on 58 minutes, the dangerous Wes O’rourke equalised from a seemingly offside position.
