Rolls Reserves prevail in Notts thriller

ROLLS Royce Leisure Reserves made it eight wins on the trot with a pulsating 4-3 victory at Nottinghamshire in NSL Division One.

The opening ten minutes saw both teams measuring each other up but Rolls went in front when Aaron Potter’s driving run and sublime cross was met by a deft header across goal by Danny Gamble for Reece Jackson to nod home.

Rolls then saw defender Dan Tring penalised for handling outside the area, with replacement keeper Matt Innes failing to get a touch to Scott Henderson’s resultant free-kick which found the net for 1-1.

Then a long punt wasn’t dealt with by Paul Parkinson and his mistake gifted Notts with an opportunity to go in front which they duly took.

Only desperate defending and a fine save from Innes spared Rolls further blushes before the break.

Rolls started the second-half brightly and Alec Morton levelled the scores after Potter’s free-kick was helped on by Jackson.

But yet again the midfield failed to thwart a Notts attack and more defensive lapses led to an easy goal for the home side to regain the lead.

Sustained pressure in the final 15 minutes from Rolls eventually got the result they deserved, Potter firstly hitting the back of the net from close range.

Both teams, refused to settle for the draw, pushing hard for what would be the winning goal.

This time Rolls’ defenders stood firm and they were rewarded in the dying minutes when, from a corner, man-of-the-match Potter’s kick was met by a touch which sent the ball into the net, Jackson claiming the goal.
