Scoreline flatters Cotgrave
Hucknall Rolls Leisure secured a comfortable three points with a 2-0 win over a youthful Cotgrave Welfare.
The visitors never gave up but, in truth, the scoreline should have been much more convincing.
With Jack James back in midfield after missing the previous game alongside the experienced Danny Bainbridge, Rolls controlled the game for long periods.
They should have taken the lead midway through the first-half when Andy Start was put clear but his stretched finish didn’t have enough on it and was cleared off the line.
But Start made amends just before half-time when Ashley Marshall, oved forward to a more advanced role, played him through and this time he made no mistake from 12 yards.
The lead was doubled early in the second-half when Ant Wallis and Greg Conn combined down the right and man-of-the-match Conn cut the ball back to Marshall on the penalty spot to fire home at the second attempt.
Rolls looked threatening whenever they went forward and Wallis then had a contender for miss of the season when the ball bounced over the visiting keeper on the edge of the box and he nipped in behind but with the ball drifting a little wide, could only volley against the inside of the post.
But a much-improved performance had earned them the three points.
Rolls: Pearson, Conn, Hulme, Duncan, Short, James, Bainbridge, Solloman, Wallis, Start, Marshall.
