THE UNDERLYING spirit in the Bulwell camp was praised after they cruised into the Third Round of the Notts Senior Cup at the expense of struggling divisional rivals Bilborough Town.

After banter exchanged on social-media websites, the tie was always going to be hard fought. But Bulwell showed their class in a 4-0 win.

Club secretary Andy Radford said after the game: “I’m sure there will be a few clubs that have watched us this season and won’t want to draw us in the next round, as we have nothing to lose against the so called bigger fish.

“But we would more than hold our own against anyone as the spirit within the club is superb and we have a never-say-die attitude.”

Against Bilborough, The Bulls were without marksman Connor Carter through suspension but the bosses could call on Allan Jeffries.

The Bulls began the better with Jeffries and Scott Litchfield going close but then the match turned on its head with Bilborough in the ascendancy.

Jeffries then saw a shot cleared off the line on 21 minutes before Pelican hit the bar with a decent-sized crowd of 86 enjoying an even first half that ended in stalemate, despite Bulls skipper Dwayne Soar rallying his troops to concentrate on the basics.

After the break, Jay knight almost gave the Bulls the perfect start with his weak effort almost finding the bottom corner one minute in.

But all came good thanks three-goal blast in 20 minutes with Jeffries finally heading home on 50 after his initial effort was saved by the keeper. He then doubled The Bulls’ and his own tally with a low drive from 20 yards.

Just 90 seconds later, Litchfield added ther third from close range.

The icing on the cake was provided by substitute Jamie Moore, who added the fourth on 86 minutes to seal an excellent victory.

Eyes are now on the draw for the next round when the likes of Hucknall Town and Eastwood Town enter the competition.
