The former Northampton Town man was named as the Manager’s Player of the Season at the club’s Annual Awards Dinner and has now committed his future to the Stags after a solid campaign at One Call Stadium.

After picking up an injury prior to the beginning of the 2015/16 season, Collins was forced to bide his time to secure a place in the Stags’ starting XI due to the good form of Krystian Pearce and Ryan Tafazolli.

It wasn’t until the middle of October when Collins got a run in the side following the suspension of fellow defender Pearce, before being made captain after the departure of Nicky Hunt to Leyton Orient in January.

The 27-year-old Wolverhampton Wanderers Academy product made 32 starts in all competitions for Adam Murray’s side last season, showing his versatility by playing at centre-back, right-back and defensive midfield.
“I’m delighted to have signed and am already looking forward to next season,” said Collins.

“We enjoyed a productive campaign in 2015-16 and will aim to go one better next season.”
The new deal will run from July 1 and is subject to Football League approval.
