Town boss laments late goals

MANAGER Brett Marshall agonised over the late goals that potentially cost his Hucknall Town side at least four points this week — but remained positive over the Yellows’ general form.

Town were moments away from victory at Sheffield FC on Saturday before a 3-1 lead turned into a 3-3 draw in the closing minutes, and another late goal proved costly at Carlton Town on Wednesday night as the home side won 1-0.

Marshall said: “I think Saturday was definitely two points dropped in the end because we put in probably our best display of the season so far, but it was pleasing to come away and realise we’d given another very good side a tough game.

“It’s easy to complain about the referee playing eight minutes when he only put four on the board at the end but to be honest we should be able to defend balls into the box and in the end that’s what cost us.

“On Wednesday night our struggle to hold the ball better up front proved key but again we put in a good display.”

Despite the setbacks, Marshall remains optimistic ahead of a home game with current league leaders Coalville Town on Saturday and then the visit of Sutton Coldfield on Tuesday night.

He said: “We’ve come on leaps and bounds in recent weeks. I’m trying to look at the games in batches rather than match after match and in the last five games we’ve really picked up.

“Coalville are obviously strong up front but I feel there are areas we can exploit them.

“Alex Ford will hopefully be back in the team after getting a gash on his ankle, but Aaron Large won’t feature. I’m also hoping to have another new face in by the weekend.”
