Yellows denied by injury-time strike

TWO goals in the closing moments of the game cost Hucknall Town the chance of victory as they drew 3-3 at Sheffield FC on Saturday.

The equaliser came five minutes into injury-time at the end of the game, with the Yellows having put in a good display to so nearly take all three points.

Julian Topliss was put through on goal in the first minute of the game but was tackled by Liam Flynn just in time, Jamie Brown also going close.

But the lead came when Evan Garnett did well down the right before squaring to Alex Ford who stroked the ball home.

Steve Woolley hit the bar for the hosts straight from the re-start, but the second goal was to come on 57 minutes and it was Ford again on target, the Ilkeston FC loanee finding the net from just inside the area after Jamie Hadfield had been dispossessed.

Sheffield pulled one back as Aaron Martin easily headed from ten yards out on 61, but within five minutes a free-kick was lofted into the box from the right and Topliss brought the ball down and fired into the net.

Sheffield probed hard to get back into the game and when they did it was from the penalty spot on 89 minutes, Woolley netting after a blatant handball in the area.

And they weren’t to be denied an equaliser either. As Hucknall clung on to their lead, they finally gave way in the 95th minute as Hadfield rose highest to head home a cross from the right.

But it had been a fine performance from Hucknall who drew plenty of praise from the home faithful after the game.
