AN impressive carp, weighing 8lb 8oz, was the biggest fish caught in the latest match enjoyed by HUCKNALL TOWN ANGLING CLUB.
Alan Lucas landed the carp on the Ash Lake at Willow Lakes Fishery in Grantham. But it wasn’t enough to earn him victory, which went instead to Dave Wright with a bag weighing 28-2.
Wright finished just in front of Kev Blewitt (26-7), with Barry Blewitt in third with 21-8.
Lucas finished sixth with 10-10, while other weights were: Barrie Robinson 19-12, Rob Lewis 17-4, Colin Robinson 6-4, Mick Stanley 3-14, Richard Charlton 3-0, Jimmy Craig 2-14 and Derek Alcock 1-4. Craig Akin did not weigh.
VISITOR Alan Birch stole the limelight when HUCKNALL ANGLERS fished Hackett Lakes at Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham for a charity match.
Birch’s return of 6lb 12oz earned him joint first place, alongside club member Pat Hall in a match of cheap pickings.
Other weights were: Robert Daws 6-4, Brian Cross 6-3, Dave Clarke 4-4, Ernie Davis 3-3, Tony Beastall 1-7, Tom Bakewell 1-1, Dennis Hall 0-14 and Derek Brough 0-13.
No fewer than seven anglers failed to weigh. They were Ray Pickin, Ken Shaw, Trevor Tideswell, Terry Coltart, Len Gill, Gary Booth and visitor John Dimond.
Three days earlier, the club fished their first Thursday night match of the new season at Forge Mill Pond in Bestwood Village.
