ANGLING: Knighton the toast of the lakeside

A WHOPPING weight of 75lb 2oz had Steve Knighton laughing all the way to the scales as he stormed to victory in HUCKNALL TOWN ANGLING CLUB’S latest Sunday match on Boat Pool at Peatling Lakes, Leicestershire.

Knighton’s performance secured him a margin of success of more than 7lb over second-placed Dave Wright (67-12).

Other weights recorded were: Barry Blewitt 52-0, Rob Lewis 36-2, Craig Akin 34-10, Barrie Robinson 23-8, Mick Stanley 21-4, Kev Blewitt 15-12, Rich Charlton 12-10, Colin Robinson 6-0, Jimmy Craig 5-0, Derek Alcock 0-7. Alan Lucas did not weigh.

The club’s next match is on Sunday on Horse Shoe Lake, Birch House, Brailsford, Derbyshire.

A BATTLE of the brothers saw Arthur Daws see off sibling Rob in HUCKNALL ANGLERS’ outing at Hackett’s Farm in Nottinghamshire.

Arthur beat the wind from peg 8 between the reeds with 30lb 15oz, while Rob registered 29-9.

Other weights were: Alan Birch 20-11, Brian Cross 14-14, Arthur Lovatt 13-13, Trevor Tideswell 13-1, Dennis Hall 11-11, Derek Brough 11-8, Dave Clarke 11-1, Ray Pickin 10-1, Pat Hall 8-10, Russ Tideswell 3-5. Three did not weigh.

The next match is on Sunday at Woodhouse Farm, Long Lane, Longford, Derby.

A rain shower didn’t dampen the spirits as Darren Smith won the club’s latest match at Forge Mills, Bestwood Village with a bag weighing 6lb 10oz.

Ernie Davis, with borrowed gear from Ray Pickin after his was stolen a week ago, couldn’t get to grips with the waggler.
