ANGLING: New season off to a flier

THE LITTLE John Lakes at Ollerton was a popular venue as the new coarse-fishing season got underway for clubs in the Dispatch district.

Both HUCKNALL TOWN ANGLING CLUB and HUCKNALL ANGLERS opened their campaigns on the Friar Tuck water and returned a fine collection of weights.

Hucknall Anglers’ match was won from peg 19 by Dave Rose with 24lb 8oz — just ahead of second-placed Brad Livock (21-11).

Other weights were: Rob Daws 20-9, Derek Brough 20-6, Brian Cross 19-12, Ray Pickin 17-13, Russ Tideswell 16-1, Mick Evans 14-0, Ken Shaw 13-14, Arthur Daws 10-13, Alan Birch 9-11, Dennis Hall 8-10, Trev Tideswell 8-1, Dave Clarke 7-3, Len Gill 6-12 and Tom Bakewell 6-0. John Moore did not weigh.

The Hucknall Town match was won by Kev Blewitt with a bag weighing 34-0. Other weights were: Barry Blewitt 25-5, Rob Lewis 23-7, Dave Wright 20-1, Kenny Knighton 19-8, Alan Lucas 16-8, Richard Charlton 16-6, Craig Akin 11-2, Colin Robinson 10-4, Barrie Robinson 7-8, Jimmy Craig 6-10, Derek Alcock 3-2 and Mick Stanley 2-1.

Last weekend, Town fished the Four Island Lake at Portland Waters in Sibthorpe, near Newark.

Richard Charlton was the winner with 26-2, ahead of Dave Wright (22-4) and Alan Lucas (17-0).

Other weights recorded: Barry Blewitt 16-4, Kenny Knighton 15-0, Tony Jones 10-5, Jimmy Craig 9-0, Kev Blewitt 4-5 and Derek Alcock 3-2. Four members — Barrie Robinson, Rob Lewis, Colin Robinson and Mick Stanley — did not weigh.

TERRIFIC mixed bags made for enjoyable Sunday open matches at the GOOSEDALE FISHERIES lake at Bestwood Village.

Ray Redwood won the opener with 33lb 14oz, while Gary Pillsworth took the next match with an even more impressive haul weighing 49-12.

From peg 15, Pillsworth landed lots of fish on pellet and meat to take the first prize of £40.

Second place (£20) went to Steve Allcock with 44-8 from peg 25, while third place went to Dave Bearnsome with 34-0.

Other weights were: Darren Smith 24-4, Beryl Thackary 23-12 and Gary Smith 15-4.

Redwood caught a mixed bag of skimmers and carp on pellet and then meat from peg 25.

He finished just in front of Steve Allcock, who bagged mainly skimmers and carp on meat from peg one, while third-placed Kelly Redwood weighed in with 17-8 from peg 15 after catching mainly small skimmers on pellet. Rob Lewis was fourth with 14-4 from peg 13.
