A TOTAL of 254 awards were dished out during the annual presentation of Hucknall’s Rolls-Royce Junior Football Club.

More than 600 players, coaches, parents and supporters tuned up to celebrate the family club’s on and off-the-field success at the Rolls base off Watnall Road.

Chairman Andy Corah paid tribute to the dedication and backing from the committee, Rolls Leisure Association and every player and coach.

Among those who were presented with prizes were members of teams ranging from under-7s level to under-16s girls.

There were also medals for more than 45 youngsters who attend the club’s weekly soccer school for two hours on Saturday mornings.

This has been run by John Cheetham for five years and he too thanked parents for backing the initiative in a weathers.

At the presentation, Corah spoke of successes on the field with several teams making semi-finals and finals of cup competitions, including the under-12s, who were in the league cup final for the second year running.

The under-11s girls made it to the semi-final of their league cup and shield, while the under-11s boys were runners-up in their division of the Young Elizabethan League (YEL) and the under-10s were voted ‘best sporting team’ in their league.

The club also held a successful summer tournament, which attracted 78 teams.

An annual charity day in aid of the When You Wish Upon A Star cause for seriously-ill children has so far realised more than £1,000.

Corah said the season had been “a rollercoaster ride” but that everyone had “pulled together and made this one of the best family-friendly clubs in the area”.

He said the emphasis of Rolls would be on children playing football for fun and enjoyment -- “the way it was meant to be.”
