DOUBLE winners Boots Athletic celebrated one of the best seasons in their history with a presentation night at their Rolls-Royce Leisure club base in Hucknall.

Boots won the Notts Senior League, Senior Division title by eight points, losing just four of their 30 matches.

And they doubled up by lifting the league cup with a 3-1 victory over groundshare rivals, Hucknall Rolls Leisure, 3-1 in a thrilling final.

Hogging the limelight at the presentation night was prolific striker Kev Walker, who was voted players’ player of the year and won the Golden Boot award for his tally of 38 goals.

The managers’ player of the year award went to gladiatorial midfielder Wayne Jones, while 13-goal winger Nathan Hodges was voted young player of the year.

Assistant manager Steve Tasker won the sportsman of the year prize, while Paul Markowski took the Frank Durrant Memorial Award.

Boots Reserves also reflected on a fine season in which they finished third in the NSL’s First Division and reached the semi-finals of the league cup under manager Simon Payne.

Their individual award-winners were skipper Jon Walton (players’ player), veteran schemere Gareth Rees (manager’s player), Frazer Barron (young player) and Craig Jones (sportsman).
