Mansfield Bowling Club have installed a £12,000 solar roof to their pavilion.

A £5000 grant from British Airways Carbon Fund was matched by a similar grant from Queen Elizabeth’s Endowed School Trust with the balance made up from the club’s own fundraising.

A special ceremony will take place at the club at 190 Chesterfield Road South, Mansfield on Wednesday, 30th July (2.45pm) when Alessandra Cuzzoli from British Airways will unveil a commemorative plaque, accompanied by Debby Clements, from the Pure Leapfrog Trust, who introduced the club to British Airways.

Graham Headworth, Project Leader, thanked the two sponsors and said that the solar roof together with the rainwater harvesting equipment already installed, has put Mansfield Bowling Club at the forefront of ‘green’ bowling clubs in England and has already made a substantial contribution to reducing costs and generating cash.

The club hopes to receive £1,700 per year from the Government’s Feed In Tariff as well as having free water and electricity.
