BOWLS: Mixed bag for topsy turvy Rolls

THE TOPSY-turvy form of ROLLS-ROYCE LEISURE continued as they collected two wins and two defeats from their latest set of fixtures.

The highlight of the week came with a 5-1 (73 shots to 44) success against Selston in Division One of the Notts Saturday 3x3 Federation.

For it provided revenge for the locals after Selston sent them packing in the Glover Trophy the previous week.

This time around, Rose Hobbs, John Walker and Alan Harvey scored a 7 and a 6 to win 32- 14 and set the tone. Janet Adams, Ann Taylor and Alan Parker raced into a 20-2 lead after 11 ends and finally won 26-13, while Pauline Harvey, Stuart Newton and Roy Walker went down 17-15 after being deadlocked at 14 apiece.

A SWEET victory was also secured in Division One of the Midweel Mixed 4x3 Federation to the tune of 5-2 (70-54).

Ann Taylor, Ron Clurow and Alan Harvey were the stars, winning 14 of the 18 ends to race home 27-5. A convincing 19-10 win was the collected bys Rose Hobbs, Keith Powell and John Walker.

Pauline Harvey, Adam Wright and Bert Wright fought back from 13-4 down to narrowly lose 19-17, while Maureen Gunn, Ben Clurow and Geoff Gunn lost 20-7.

A DAY to forget in Division Two of the Notts Mixed EBA League saw the Rollers narrowly beaten 5-2 (56-53) by Trent Vale.

Ann Taylor, Ben Clurow and Bert Wright survived dropping eight shots in the last two ends to win 19-14 and Pauline Harvey, Greg Umney and Alan Harvey won 14-10.

But Maureen Gunn, Ron Clurow and Geoff Gunn went down 15-12 after being locked at 8-8 at one stage and defeat was confirmed by a 17-8 reverse for the trio of Rose Hobbs, John Etches and Graham Fowler.

IN their final outing, Rolls lost out 5-2 (86-77) against Manor Park in Division Three of the Ashfield 4x2 League, despite an outstanding rink from Lily Bennington and Maureen Gunn.

The duo were 29-3 up after 14 of the 21 ends and finally eclipsed their opponents 33-12.

But the match was in the balance after the rink of Adam Wright and Graham Fowler lost by the same scoreline before Greg Umney and John Etches dropped a three on the last end to lose 18-15 and Terry Simpson and Geoff Gunn lost 23-17.
