HOPES of a golden run in the Notts Federation’s prestigious Steel Trophy came to nought for Hucknall-based ROLLS-ROYCE LEISURE when they bowed out of the competition in one of the opening ties.
Rolls lost by 78 shots to 69 against Notts Proprietary after defeats on three of the four rinks.
Their winners were Rose Hobbs, Ron Clurow and Dave Breedon, who hit back from 17-15 down to triumph 24-19. But Lily Bennington, John Etches and Roy Walker were pipped by one shot, 15-14, despite a similar rally, while Ann Taylor, Ben Clurow and Bert Wright lost 23-17 and Maureen Gunn, Adam Wright and Geoff Gunn slid to a 21-14 reverse.
THE Rollers also tasted defeat in the First Division of the Notts EBA 3X$ Open League when falling 5-1 (54 shots to 46) against Attenborough.
Their only winning rink was Janet Adams, Ron Clurow, Mark Foulds and Dave Adams, who triumphed 23-14, despite dropping a five.
Geoff Gunn, Bert Wright, Roy Walker and Dave Breedon, who led 8-3 at one stage, dropped four shots on the last two ends to lose 17-14, while Alan Harvey, John Etches, Stuart Newton and Alan Parker crashed 23-9 after scoring on only five of the 18 ends.
THE REST of Rolls’s week was a huge success as they celebrated four victories, including against local-derby rivals, NEWSTEAD, in Division One of the Notts Mixed Midweek Federation.
The Hucknall side romped home 6.5-0.5 (86 shots to 46) after winning on three of the rinks and seeing Lily Bennington, John Etches and Alan Harvey share the spoils at 18-18 on the other.
Pauline Harvey, Stuart Newton and Mark Foulds, scored a three on a dramatic last end to grab a 16-15 win, while Janet Adams, Terry Simpson and Dave Adams dominated to triumph 30-6 and Maureen Gunn, Ron Clurow and Geoff Gunn eased home 22-7 after winning 14 of the 18 ends.
IN DIVISION One of the Notts Saturday 3X3 Federation, Rolls enjoyed a 5-1 victory (62 shots to 56) over Nottingham Western.
Rose Hobbs, Graham Fowler and Alan Harvey threw away a 21-18 lead with only four ends to play, going down 27-21. But Pauline Harvey, Stuart Newton and Roy Walker recovered from 12-5 down after five ends to win 18-6 and Janet Adams, Ann Taylor and Mark Foulds finished 23-13 up.
A 7-0 WHITEWASH was the outcome when Rolls destroyed Daybrook by 90 shots to 57 in Division Two of the Notts EBA Mixed League.
The four triumphant rinks were Maureen Gunn, Adam Wright and Geoff Gunn (21-15), Ann Taylor, Greg Umney and Alan Parker (25-14), Pauline Harvey, Alan Harvey and Bert Wright (19-10) and Lily Bennington, Ron Clurow and Stuart Newton, who scored 15 shots on the last seven ends to seal a 25-18 success.
ROLLS’S remaining win of the week was a 12-2 (85 shots to 70) eclipse of Ashfield in Division Three of the Ashfield 4X2 Saturday League.
