THE BULWELL boxer who revels in the nickname ‘Mr Block’ has won a Midlands area title.
In the highlight of his professional career so far, Shane McPhilbin (25) defeated the previously unbeaten Rhys Davies, of Coventry, in a bout for the vacant cruiserweight title at the Civic Hall in Bedworth, Warwickshire.
McPhilbin stopped the 27-year-old Davies after downing him with a combination to the head in the third round of the ten-round fight.
It was the sixth victory in eight contests for the Bulwell man since he turned pro — and a fourth win on the spin since he made a big impression at the prestigious Prizefighter tournament live on Sky Sports TV last October.
In November, he beat 26-year-old Bulgarian Tayar Mehmed and in March, he defeated 34-year-old Preston old-stager Howard Daley — both on points.
