It was all about the Butlers and the Greens when last season’s champions, Station Hotel B, proved they still have what it takes in the HUCKNALL EPA POOL LEAGUE.

Station B licked newly-named Spot-On Club (formerly Empire) 6-2 with the Butler brothers, Danny and Dave, took a pairs leg and a singles leg between them, while the Greens, Andrea and Roger, won three of the other legs between them! Just for good measure, Dave also completed an eight-ball clearance.

The win left Station B in fourth spot, but fully ten points behind leaders Royal British Legion A, who stretched their unbeaten record to 15 matches with a 7-1 romp against bottom-of-the-table Green Dragon.

Legion A hold a four-point advantage over their inter-club rivals, Royal British Legion B, who survived a rocky ride at Chequers before pocketing another three points in the title race. They trailed 3-2 against their vastly-improved hosts before taking the last three legs to pull the match out of the fire.

Malc Grocock and Dean Dymock set the recovery in motion on the second pairs leg, and then Wayne Cartledge and Grocock won on singles. Earlier Colin Draycott had triumphed on singles and pairs, while Chequers’ victors had been Mike Rossel, Rob Simpson and Chris Reedman.

Winning came much more comfortably to third-placed H2O, who triumphed 5-3 away to next-to-bottom Bestwood Village Social Club. Victories by Dave Ellis, Martin Saxton, Tony Flanagan and the pairings of Saxton and Adam Fowkes and Ellis and Flanagan had the points in the bag by the penultimate leg.

The week’s remaining two fixtures were mid-table duels. The Dragon always had their noses in front to beat Station Hotel A 5-3, with Steve McIntyre and Shane Wood successful on singles and pairs, while Liberal and Yew Tree shared a 4-4 draw, with Lewis Smith recording an eight-ball clearance for the home side on the first leg.
