GURU Brian Holmes has announced his intention to retire as Hucknall Town chairman at the end of the season. But he will remain as club president.
Holmes, who celebrates his 69th birthday later this month, filled the breach at Watnall Road when Town’s prospective new owner, Steve Greaves, was ousted in February.
“I didn’t want to do the job because there is so much work involved,” Holmes said. “But there was no-one else.
“However I will be asking for someone to take my place.
“The job is very stressful and, at this stage in my life, I could do without the daily hassle.”
Holmes, a former millionaire businessman and ex-director of Derby County, first took over as chairman in the summer of 2001. He stepped down at the end of the 2008/09 campaign, to be replaced by Dave Gamble.
