A tight finish saw Brett Chapman come out top with just 6oz to spare in Sherwood Forest Fishery’s Open match on Holmedale Lake on Sunday 18th May, where 26 fished.

With the carp spawning, there were no big weights like in the midweek match, but, fishing the pole and corn, he put 66lb 9oz on the scales.

Carl Brown fished the pole and pellet at peg 27 to land 17 carp to 5lb to clinch second place.

Completing the top six were: Garvin Reville (Eastwood Angling) peg 20, 61-5-0; Martyn Brown (Eastwood Angling) peg 44, 60-3-0; Gary Pilsworth (Sherwood Forest Fishery) peg 14, 56-11-0; Phil Carline (Subfish) peg 32, 54-15-0.

Near perfect conditions had resulted in some excellent weights in the previous Wednesday’s open match on 14th May on the Holmedale Lake.

Eastwood Angling boss Martin Brown came out on top of the 23 anglers, but did not having it all his own way, struggling for the first half of the match with just nine carp on the pole and pellet.

But when he changed to the pole and paste fished down the margins, he landed a further 31 carp to 9lb and put 162lb 1oz on the scales.

In second place fishery owner Mick Langton had 33 carp to 9lb at peg 4 on the pole and paste fished out at 6m and pole and meat fished down the margin for 147lb 12oz.

Other leading weights were: Kev Chaplin (Sherwood Forest Fishery) peg 17, 145-1-0; Simon Skelton (Maver) peg 39, 134-15-0; Andy Lakey (Worksop Angling) peg 9, 112-7-0; Nigel Shipman (Sherwood Forest Fishery) peg 14, 111-6-0.

The previous day’s Tuesday Open saw 14 fish Sherwood Lake and it was Rivendell AC’s Mick Lysaght who ran out the victor.

He was the only angler to catch any carp in numbers but he only had six, the biggest at 16lb caught on the pole and corn.

Along with 30lb of skimmers on the pole and caster, he finished with 81lb 9oz.

Catch of the day went to second placed John Holmes fishing the pole and pellet, who had a net of skimmers to 12oz plus one bonus 3lb carp in his 72lb 12oz net.

Following on from them were: Roy Wilkinson (Woodhouse Angling) peg 44, 56-4-0; Geoff Hiley (Sherwood Forest Fishery) peg 41, 51-3-0; Fred Bispham Sherwood Forest Fishery peg 37, 46-12-0; Steve Richards (Sherwood Forest Fishery) peg 40, 40-3-0.
