Hucknall rider Richard Cooper picked up a top 10 finish for the Buildbase BMW team, int he 11th round of the 2015 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship at Silverstone.
He was joined in the top 10 by team-mate Lee Jackson.
After a tough qualifying session, the first race was always going to be difficult for the Buildbase BMW trio.
Jackson and Cooper were able to make the best of the situation, finishing 11th and 12th respectively and setting decent lap times to secure strong positions on the grid for race two.
Starting 14th, Cooper fought through to the pack and into the top 10 and began to chip away at his competitors, passing the Tyco BMW of Tommy Bridewell to take sixth on the penultimate lap.
The result sees the Notts race ace stretch out his lead in the chase for the Riders’ Cup, which is now 16 points over Luke Mossey.
Speaking after the races, Cooper said the team’s switch in tactics for the second race paid dividends.
“One of the things this team is good at is giving you the support between race one and race two,” he said.
“We knew that the result in race one wasn’t really where we should be.
“We had to rethink the strategy for race two, took a gamble and went for the softer tyre and it was good.
“I had great rhythm so picked my way through and got through to sixth.
“I felt if we had been there earlier on I could have been further on as we definitely had the pace.”
Team manager Steve Hicken was delighted with the day’s finish: “After the results in race one it was great for Richard and Lee to do so well in race two.
“We weren’t where we want to be in the first race but both of them came out fighting in race two and showed really good pace.”
