Council grant to help boxing club fight crime

A flourishing community boxing club in Bulwell is well used to fighting in the ring.

But now it has been handed the task of fighting crime in the area too.

For a grant of £442.50 has been awarded to the Bulwell Hall Boxing And Community First Club , which is based at the Totley Close Community Centre.

Re-offending rates among young people are regarded by Nottingham City Council to be too high in Bulwell.

But the club is considered to be a leading light in educating teenagers through the ‘Healthy Bulwell’ and ‘Every Child Matters’ campaigns.

Therefore the council has handed out the grant in the hope that the club will be able to improve the wellbeing of local youngsters.

The club, which was set up three years ago by boxing coach Barry O’Dowd, is the only leisure organisation of its kind on the Bulwell Hall Estate.
