THE first away match of the season for the Hucknall-based Nottinghamshire county darts team resulted in a 20-16 defeat against Worcestershire.
Blooding some new players for the British Inter-Counties Championship, Second Division clash, Notts were all-square at 9-9 after the B team action on the Saturday.
But they were let down by the men’s A team, who fell to an 8-4 defeat on the Sunday, despite a superb performance by Derek Shipley, who won one leg in 11 darts, hitting 180, 140 and 125 before checking out on 56. His final average was 31.56.
The other three teams drew, with Mark Pearson winning the man-of-the-match award for the men’s B team, and Helen Harvey and Sara Faulkner starring for the ladies.
Notts return to their home base at Hucknall’s Rolls-Royce Leisure Club for their next match — against Berkshire over the weekend of November 19 and 20.
