DOMINOES: shaky start by champs

LAST season’s champions, Constitutional Club, have made a shaky start to the defence of their HUCKNALL WINTER DOMINOES LEAGUE title.

Conny clung on to the championship earlier this year, pipping runners-up Shamrock on leg-difference in a nailbiting finale.

But they have now lost both of their opening matches of the new term — 3-2 at home to Talk Of The Town and 5-0 away to league newcomers Station Hotel (Newstead).

Talk Of The Town and Station Newstead are among the four sides who boast a 100% record from the first fortnight of the 2011/12 campaign. They have also defeated Royal British Legion 4-1 and George Street B 3-2 respectively.

The other two teams to have won their first fixtures are Station Hotel (Hucknall) B, who have defeated Little John and Crafty Conny, 4-1, and Bestwood Village Social Club, who have won 3-2 at Empire Strikes Back and 4-1 at home to George Street B.

Crafty Conny and Empire Strikes Back are two cheekily-named new outfits who are helping to make up a 12-strong league this season, which spans 22 weeks and runs until next April.

Other early results are: Bentinck Club 1 Crafty Conny 4, Royal British Legion 1 Shamrock 4, Little John 3 Empire 2, Shamrock 2 Bentinck Club 3.
