THE Dispatch district’s local racecourse, Nottingham, is to open its doors to spectators for FREE!
The track at Colwick Park is one of 25 across the country taking part next month in an initiative to attract new followers.
For Nottingham’s opening fixture of the Flat horse-racing season on Wednesday April 6, a total of 500 tickets will be made available free of charge for the grandstand enclosure, with a maximum of two per person.
The meeting features a quality card, including the £30,000 totesport.com Further Flight Stakes. Admission would normally be £10 but the free tickets can be obtained by logging on to the www.lovetheraces.com website.
Horse racing is already the second most popular spectator-sport in Britain. But when a similar venture was launched by the industry for the first time last year, an additional 40,000 visitors flocked to the races.
This year, a total of 28 fixtures during April will either be entirely free or offering a certain number of free tickets to be claimed in advance. They include terrific meetings at top courses such as Ascot, Newbury, Sandown and Newmarket
Nottingham boss Pip Kirkby said: “We are thrilled to be part of this fantastic venture. We want to enthuse even more people to experience the excitement of a day at the races.”
