The absence of wins was offset by a host of personal-best (PB) times when HUCKNALL FALCON competed in the First Round gala of the Notts ASA Stage Three League at Worksop Leisure Centre,
Falcon finished fifth of the five clubs at the gala. But their swimmers achieved a total of 26 PBs -- and some by a considerable margin.
For example, Sophie Melvin (14-and-under girls) and Adam Webber (12-and-under boys)found improvements of around 13 seconds.
Other highlights were second places for junior girls’ captain Elise Connor in the 12-and-under 100m individual medley and Ellie-May Gunn in the 12-and-under girls’ 100m butterfly.
And it was pleasing too to see Adam Riley return to competitive swimming after two-and-half-years away. He celebrated with a PB in the boys’ open 100m freestyle.
The other PBs were clocked by: Kyle Raison (14-and-over boys’ 50m freestyle and 14-and-under boys’ 100m butterfly), Sophie Melvin (14-and-under girls’ 100m butterfly, 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle), senior girls’ captain Chloe Melvin (open 100m individual medley, 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle), Emma Hutson (12-and-under girls’ 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle ), Adam Webber (12-and-under boys’ 50m butterfly and 100m butterfly), Jai Raison (12-and-under boys’ 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle), Megan Miles (14-and-under girls’ 100m backstroke), Archie Penlington (14-and-under boys’ 50m freestyle and 100m individual medley), Sean waterhouse (14-and-under boys’ 50m freestyle) and Ryan Patel (12-and-under boys’ 100m breaststroke).
Falcon’s head coach ian Melvin said: “We were without a win all night, but we were in within touching distance of victory thanks to two second-place finishes.
“Again, there was a good team spirit from all the swimmers who travelled top Workop. Well done to all involved on the night.”
RESULT -- Leander A 211 points, Mansfield 208, Newark 155, Arnold 150, FALCON 128.
The result left Falcon in 12th place in the 16-team league. The Second Round galas take place on Saturday May 25.
