Flourishing gymnast takes medals on England duty

GYMNAST Katy Bramley, of Hucknall, has taken a big leap forward in her ambition to become a star of the sport.

For while competing for England, she picked up two medals in a prestigious competition.

The 14-year-old was selected in an England Juniors outfit for the Rushmoor Rose Bowl contest in Aldershot, which attracted invited competitors from as far afield as South Africa and the USA.

Katy was in fine form to land a silver medal in the team event. She also scooped bronze in the individual final on bars and finished eighth overall, of 98 competitors, in the individual all-around section.

Despite the success, Katy suffered a tinge of disappointment because she was lying as high as second in the overall contest when nerves got the better of her and two falls on beam spoiled her scores.

Said mum Sue: “This event has been running for 30 years and is open to all ages. It is a real stepping stone.”

Katy pulled out of the individual vault final to protect her injury-plagued foot ahead of the qualifiers for the British Championships next month.
