Four teams are blazing a trail at the top of the table after the first six weeks of the new HUCKNALL EPA SUMMER POOL LEAGUE season.

The quartet are locked on the same number of points after four wins, one draw and none defeat. But only one of them, Yew Tree, along with fifth-placed Spot-On Amateurs, are still unbeaten in the 12-team, all-singles league.

First in the queue on leg-difference are Royal British Legion B after a 5-3 victory away to Chequers A in their latest fixture. Michael Holmes-Parker and Wayne Cartledge got Legion B off to a flier and although Chequers pulled it back to 2-2, the visitors got their noses in front again and sealed the points by taking the last two legs.

Yew Tree’s latest success was a 5-3 win at home to Spot-On Pros after storming back from 2-0 and 3-1 down. Dion Nangle launched the recovery before Karl Jones kept up the good work and the home side took the last three legs too.

Also in the leading quartet are Bestwood Vets and H2O, although the former surrendered their unbeaten start to the season in a heavy 7-1 defeat at Station B. Roger Green, Andrea Green and PJ Singh were among the winners for rampant Station.

H2O fared much better at home to Chequers B, inflicting a 6-2 defeat, with Dave Ellis and Tony Flanagan striking twice.

The league features some new names, most notably Bestwood Scallywags, who have so far celebrated two wins but suffered four defeats, including a 6-2 loss at home to Liberal.

Spot-On Amateurs are also newcomers and they collected their third win in five starts when whitewashing bottom-of-the-table Station A 8-0. Dean Dymock, Colin Draycott, Sean Chauntry and Malc Grocock were among their victors.
