Judoka Kieren Roden, of the Hucknall-based EDGEWOOD JUDO CLUB, struck gold on his competitive debut at the Nottinghamshire Red Belt Rumble II event.
Competing in the boys’ under-41kg category at Ellis Guilford School in Basford, Kieren won all three of his contests with the maximum ippon score.
In his first contest, he threw Ryan Manning, from Mold Judo Club, of Wales, in one minute, ten seconds.
In his second, he held down Jamie Cordon, of Nottingham’s Portland Judo Club in one minute, 22 seconds. And in his third contest, he threw Joseph Chapman, of Barnsley, in just 22 seconds.
Meanwhile three more Edgewood judokas were in action at the Amateur Judo Association’s East Midlands Novice Championships, which were held in Earl Shilton, Leicestershire.
Emile Palmer led the way with a gold medal in the girls’ under-22kg category, while sister Ellise Palmer collected a bronze in the girls’ under-25kg category.
Nathan Henshaw also won a creditable bronze in the boys’ under-32kg category.
