ANOTHER goal from new striking discovery Connor Carter edged title-chasing BULWELL to three more points in the Notts Senior League’s Senior Division.
After scoring four in a county cup match the previous week, Carter netted the sole strike in a 1-0 win over Attenborough that was far more comfortable than the scoreline suggests.
Attenborough gave a good account of themselves, defending very deep. And they even forced Bulwell ‘keeper James Wheat into a terrific save in the first couple of minutes.
But that proved to be the only stop of note Wheat had to make as The Bulls monopolised possession and pressure.
Carter was on the end of most of the home side’s chances and should have opened his account in the first half when blazing wide with only the ‘keeper to beat, bringing a fine save from the goalie and then firing over after good work by Ryan King.
He then had a goal ruled out for offside soon after the interval before finally breaking the deadlock on the hour when chasing a looping cross from man-of-the-match Jake Keetley, who never stopped battling in midfield, and heading over the advancing ‘keeper — much to the relief of watching fans and managers Steve Osborne and Terry Witts.
Carter was denied again by the ‘keeper, this time after being set up by Carl Horder. But in a workmanlike performance by The Bulls, there was never any danger of an Attenborough equaliser as Jay Knight and captain Dwayne Soar marshalled the solid back four very well.
