In a fabulous performance, HUCKNALL AND LINBY DOLPHINS missed out on a top-three spot by only four points in the second round of the Derby and Notts Junior League.

Swimming in front of an army of supporters at their home pool at Hucknall Leisure Centre, Dolphins pulled in no fewer than five wins, 13 runners-up places, four thirds and 17 personal-best (PB) times.

Leading the superb night were the excellent trio of Gabe Moth (11), Isaac Bennison (9) and Francis Dermody (10). Two victories apiece were celebrated by Moth (11-and-under 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke, PB) and Bennison (nine-and-under 25m freestyle and 25m backstroke), while Dermody sped to glory in the ten-and-under 50m breaststroke.

Heading the girls’ team in style was 12-year-old Bella Sheridan, who continued her sizzling form with runners-up spots in the 12-and-under 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle, and third in the 50m backstroke, all in PBs.

Second places were also achieved by Dermody in the ten-and-under 50m butterfly; ten-year-old Felix Bodill in the ten-and-under 50m backstroke (PB); nine-year-old trio Millie Dickens (25m backstroke), Hannah Bennison (25m breaststroke, PB) and Joseph Lilley (25m breaststroke, PB); 11-year-old Lauren Daft in the 50m breaststroke; and Moth in the 12-and-under 50m freestyle.

Dolphins’ relay teams enjoyed success too, with four more seconds from the nine-and-under medley team of Bennison, Lilley, Brianna Brown and Ruby Brough, the ten-and-under medley team of Bodill, Lilley, Dermody and Taylor Jaine, the ten-and-under freestyle team of Bodill, Jaine, Lilley and Bennison and the 11-year-old boys’ freestyle squad of Bodill, Moth, Lilley and Luke Hill.

The other individual third was grabbed by Hannah Bennison in the nine-and-under 25m butterfly, while relay thirds were gained by nine-and-unders Lilley, Bennison, Brown and Daisy Sheridan and the 11-and-under boys’ medley squad of Bodill, Moth, Hill and Curtis Flint.
