After a two-year absence, HUCKNALL AND LINBY DOLPHINS swimmers made a superb return to action in the tough Notts ASA Stage Three Competition at Mansfield’s Watermeadows complex.
Drawn against top opponents, Dolphins finished an excellent fourth to show they are capable of competing at this level, and leaving themselves in a great position for the next round on 21st February.
Junior girls’ captain Ria Dennis, who is 12, and 11-year-old Gabe Moth stole the show with a couple of third places in the 100m backstroke. Moth even clocked a personal-best (PB) and a county qualifying time.
Also finishing third in a PB was 11-year-old Courtney Hutson in the 100m breaststroke, while there were best times aplenty too for the older team-members. They included braces for 13-year-old Mark Turner in the 100m backstroke and 100m individual medley and 14-year-old Mason Sims in the 100m breaststroke and 100m freestyle, plus one for consistent 13-year-old Hannah Fairy in the 100m freestyle.
Said a Dolphins spokesman: “We thoroughly enjoyed the night. Every one of our swimmers rose to the challenges this gala threw at us, and we kept up well with the top teams.”
RESULT -- Leander 166 points, Mansfield A 139, Radford 125, DOLPHINS 51, Mansfield B 51.
