Plucky HUCKNALL FALCON did well to hold their own against some of Nottinghamshire’s highest-profile teams when they co-hosted the second round of the Notts ASA Stage Three Competition at Mansfield’s Watermeadows complex.

A tally of seven wins, five second places and multiple personal-best (PB) times yielded fourth place for Falcon in the five-team gala, which pleased head coach Ian Melvin.

“It was a really good team performance,” said Melvin. “Well done to everyone, to all who helped and all who cheered each other on. Excellent stuff.”

Falcon’s star of the show was Amelia Sale, who clocked up a hat-trick of successes in the girls’ open 100m individual medley, 100m butterfly and 100m backstroke.

A double was achieved by Thomas Howarth in the boys’ open 100m individual medley and 100m breaststroke. And there were also wins for Kyle Raison in the boys’ open 100m butterfly and the mixed open 4X50m freestyle relay team of Amelia Sale, senior girls’ captain Sophie Melvin, senior boys’ captain Sam Murden and Kyle Raison.

Murden spearheaded the runners-up roll of honour, finishing second in the boys’ open 100m backstroke and leading the mixed open 4X50m medley relay team alongside Thomas Howarth, Sophie Melvin and Jess Howarth.

Other second places were collected by Kyle Raison (boys’ open 100m freestyle), George Webster (14-and-under boys’ 100m breaststroke) and Ellie Barker (12-and-under girls’ 100m freestyle).

A grand total of 25 PBs were registered by Falcon, with pride of place going to junior girls’ captain Emily Butler, who rattled off three in the 12-and-under girls’ 100m butterfly, 14-and-under girls’ 100m individual medley and the 25m freestyle as part of the mixed 12-and-under cannon freestyle relay team.

Sam Murden also bagged a PB treble -- in the boys’ open 100m backstroke, the 50m freestyle as part of the mixed open 4X50m freestyle relay team and the 50m backstroke as part of the open mixed 4X50m medley relay team.

Two PBs were recorded by each of these swimmers: Finley Ellis, Bradley Gregory, Harvey Green, Sophie Melvin, Jess Howarth, George Webster and Benjamin Davis.

And single best times were clocked by Elise Connor, Adam Webber, Thomas Howarth, Jai Raison, Kyle Raison and Grace Allsop.

RESULT -- Sherwood 158 points, Mansfield A 114, Radford 114, FALCON 98, Worksop 71.
