Excitement is mounting ahead of the climax this weekend to HUCKNALL LADIES’ bid for promotion to the Second Division of the British Water Polo League.
And they warmed up by taking their fine form into the Midland League where they whacked West Midlands outfit Warley 20-7 in their fifth fixture of the current season.
After a tight first quarter, the score was locked at 4-4, with Hucknall’s goals coming from Cara Saunders (2), Laura Woodfield and Vicki Taylor.
But for the rest of the game, a powerful locals’ defence dominated Warley’s attack, restricting them to only three more goals.
At the other end, Hucknall remained composed going forward, scoring 80% of their man-up game opportunities and defending all of their man-down situations.
Six further goals were scored by the rampant Woodfield, while Rachael Endy (3), Saunders (2), Cass Mercer (2), Lauren Perkins, Stacie Roe and Taylor were also on target
The finale to the British League season takes place at Walsall this coming Saturday and Sunday with the last matches in Championship Two, which effectively acts as end-of-season play-offs.
Hucknall take on Liverpool Water Beatles on Saturday and then face a double-header on Sunday against Tyldesley , of Manchester, and Southampton, having won three and drawn one of their first four games.
Several supporters are expected to make the trip to Walsall to give their backing during the weekend.
