Two more impressive wins left happy HUCKNALL LADIES top of the table and unbeaten in the Women’s Championship 2 play-offs of the British Water Polo League.

After beating Liverpool Water Beatles and Penguin Rockhoppers, of London, in the opening weekend of action, they defeated Southampton 10-5 and then Birmingham 11-6 in their latest matches at Watford.

Now they progress to the next phase of the season, which is the Women’s Championship 2 promotion play-offs against Manchester Comets, English Roses Masters and Birmingham again at Leeds in January.

The Southampton clash was exciting, but three goals from Cara Saunders and one apiece from Rachael Endy and national league debtuant Millie Bowes-Hall soon gave Hucknall a commanding lead. As their opponents fought back, further strikes from Saunders (2) and Endy (2), plus one from Giorgia Bosworth, completed the victory.

The Birmingham match was more of a tactical battle, but Hucknall’s game-plan and superior fitness and teamwork paid dividends. Their goals were shared by Saunders (3), Endy (3), Cass Mercer (2), Bosworth, India Wilkinson and veteran Helen Reader.
