CHAMPION? -- Georgios Charalambous

Is this young boxer from Hucknall on his way to a prestigious national title?

The answer is possibly after 13-year-old Georgious Charalambous made a brilliant start to his challenge for the National Schoolboy Championships.

Georgios, of the St George Amateur Boxing Club, is fighting in the weight category of 41.5kg-43kg.

And his First Round bout, he came up against former St George teammate Brendan McCormack, who is now with the Phoenix club in Carlton.

Georgios won a close contest at Braunstone in Leicester and now moves on the East Midlands area final in Derby tonight (Friday).

Meanwhile the St George club, who are based at the Peveril Street Community Centre in Hucknall, staged a spectacular show in Nottingham last Friday in conjunction with Hucknall Round Table and backed by world champion Carl Froch.
