HUCKNALL gymnast Becky Downie (pictured), who narrowly missed out on a place at the London Olympics, has sent her heartfelt congratulations to the British men’s squad after they grabbed a stunning bronze medal in the team final.
Downie (20) achieved a record-breaking 12th-place finish in the women’s all-around competition at the Beijing Games four years ago.
But after injury problems, she was only reserve for the team at London 2012.
But after the men performed brilliantly on Monday, she hit Twitter to send her best wishes. She said: “Olympic bronze for GB boys, couldn’t be more proud! Saved it all for London 2012.”
“Still can’t believe the result, incredible and so inspiring. I hope one day what they’ve achieved can become a reality for me.”
The British women’s team finished sicth with the USA taking gold.
It was the best-ever Olympic finish for the BG women.
Downie, of Poppy Mews, was in London for the Games and also took part in some commentary on the BBC and made an appearance on the children’s programme, ‘Newsround.
