The Nottinghamshire Junior County Track and Field Championships saw a string of resounding successes for Mansfield Harriers youngsters at Derby’s Moorways Stadium.
Archie Raynor continued his magnificent form with gold in the U17s 1500m with Cameron Walker finishing with silver.
Cameron Walker was victorious in the U17 3k, Luke Duffy won the 1500m in the U15 event alongside his silver in the 800m, Alice Venkatasean won gold in the U17 3km, Beth Williams won the U17 800m, while May Roberts topped things off by winning the U15 800m.
Former Mansfield Harrier Beth Mortiboy retained her title as county champion in the triple jump, exceeding the national standard distance with a personal best jump of 11.52m. Beth is ninth in the UK rankings.
London showpiece event the Westminster Mile also saw the Harriers claim a notable victory as young Archie Rayner won the British Junior One Mile Road Championship, incorporated in the Westminster Mile event, in a remarkable time of four minutes 29 seconds.
Catherine Hough and Maddy Collinge both completed a very hilly course close to Chesterfield in the Holymoorside 10km race, in times of 55:20 and 54:49 respectively. The race was won by Ben Livesy, who finished 14th in the recent London Marathon.
Catherine and Maddy then both took on the challenging Buxton Half Marathon on what was an unsurprisingly tough course for the 13.1 mile race.
Maddy finished in 2:01:01 while Catherine clocked 1:58:04, both respectable times considering the undulating terrain.
Two ultra runners from Sutton Harriers were among 54 other entrants in the Dukeries Ultra 40, which has a circular route, starting from Walesby Sports Social Club.
Paul Beasley and Heather Pike started at 8am after heavy rain made the route muddy in places.
After about 24 miles Heather started suffering with a bad cough and decided to retire at Cresswell Craggs.
Paul continued to the finish and, feeling very tired, completed the course in an honourable time of 7hrs 56mins, running 41 miles, for the 40 mile course. After about 45 minutes rest, Heather completed the run, and to her credit finished in 9hrs 6mins.
Sutton Harriers member, Conrad Watson, completed the Erewash 5k at West Park, Long Eaton, in 22mins 46secs.
Sutton Harriers competed in the second Booth Decorators Summer League race at Ilkeston Rugby Club with 10 other clubs and are at present third in both men’s and ladies and fourth overall.
