THE TRANSFORMATION at LINBY COLLIERY WELFARE shows no intention of slowing down after a 4-0 win at Sandhurst maintained their 100% start to the new season.
Perennial strugglers Sandhurst, who were plying their trade in Division One last term, posed little threat to Dave Bradshaw and Dave Marlow’s new-look Linby outfit.
Indeed, Marlow got on the scoresheet himself as the locals strolled to their fifth successive win to go two points clear at the top of the Notts Senior League’s Senior Division table.
It was a thoroughly professional performance from start to finish, triggered by Marlow’s goal in the opening minute as he controlled a cross to the far post by Jonty Bradshaw, cut inside his man and smashed into the bottom corner.
While not always at their best, Linby went on to dominate possession against a Sandhurst side who held local rivals, Hucknall Rolls Leisure, to a 3-3 draw two weeks earlier. They created chance after chance, with home ‘keeper Simon Griffiths pulling off two brilliant saves to foil a Marlow free-kick and a screaming 20-yarder from Matt Murphy.
Murphy also blazed over an empty net from two yards but then delivered a through ball for fellow frontman Damian Mann, whose chip came back off a post.
The second goal had to come and when Ash Winfield carved out a pass for Murphy in the 35th minute, the talented striker did the rest, coolly slipping the ball under Griffiths.
Ten minutes into the second half, it was 3-0 as a crossfield pass from substitute Aaron Potter found manager’s son Bradshaw, who played in the prolific Mann to finish with aplomb.
The scoring was rounded off 15 minutes from the end when more good work by Potter saw him nutmeg his marker and feed fellow sub Luke Price, who turned well on the edge of the area before sliding his shot into the bottom corner.
A special mention goes to man-of-the-match full-back Sean O’Neill, who enjoyed his best performance for Linby.
LINBY LINE-UP (4-4-2) — Miles/ O’Neill, Peberday, Howell, Dakers/ Bradshaw, Marlow S., Winfield, Marlow D./ Mann, Murphy. Subs: Potter (for Marlow D. 50), Price (for Mann 60), Briody (for Winfield 65).
