Make way for another pair of sporting sisters from Hucknall who are covering themselves in sporting glory.

Dispatch readers will be well aware of the exploits of gymnasts Becky and Ellie Downie and also kick-boxers Josie and Lucie Callan on the global stage.

Now meet Emile and Ellise Palmer, who are members of the Hucknall-based EDGEWOOD JUDO CLUB. Emile and Ellise travelled to Earl Shilton in Leicestershire for the Amateur Judo Association’s East Midlands Low Grade and Open Grade Championships. And they returned home with gold and silver medals after a tournament to remember.

Emile struck gold after winning all her contests in the under-25kg category, while Ellise took silver in the under-30kg category.

Meanwhile, no fewer than 19 of Edgewood’s jodokas achieved new grades after taking part in a British Judo Association technical grading session held at the club’s headquarters last Sunday. They were:

James Heathcote (16th mon, brown belt and one tag), Oskar Wrzesniewski (14th mon, blue belt and two tags), Nathan Henshaw (10th mon, green belt and one tag), Curtis Flint (9th mon, orange belt and three tags), Joseph Allitt (7th mon, orange belt and one tag), Alisha Norman (6th mon, yellow belt and three tags), Laura Spencer (6th mon, yellow belt and three tags), Heather Daniels (5th mon, yellow belt and two tags), Jessica Daniels (5th mon, yellow belt and two tags), Leah Morgan (5th mon, yellow belt and two tags), Jack Nash (5th mon, yellow belt and two tags), Ellise Palmer (5th mon, yellow belt and two tags), Emile Palmer (5th mon, yellow belt and two tags), Bethan Smith (5th mon, yellow belt and two tags), Igor Wrzesniewski (4th mon, yellow belt and one tag), Samuel Nash (3rd mon, red belt and three tags), Alec Thompson (2nd mon, red belt and two tags), Cody Hoyland (1st mon, red belt and one tag) and Gracie Sadler (1st mon, red belt and one tag).
