PACKING a punch for Bulwell sport is teenage boxer Kieran Pickard (pictured), who has landed a prestigious, new title.
Pickard (19), of the Bulwell Hall Amateur Boxing Club, is the proud holder of the Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire ABA Welterweight (63.5-67kg) Challenge Belt.
And it is fitting reward for a talented fighter who has been with the club since the age of ten .
The Challenge Belt is new to amateur boxing, with the Notts and Lincs division the latest to adopt it. Pickard, who lives on Grindon Crescent in Bulwell, was one of two boxers who took up the invitation. And he defeated 18-year-old Jordan Cameron, of Kirkby, in a one-off bout at Cleethorpes.
Pickard, who works as a plasterer, is the squad captain and longest-serving member of the flourishing Bulwell Hall club, which has 12 registered boxers.
Head coach Barry O’Dowd was full of praise for Pickard, who has already had 30 fights as an amateur boxer and is soon to go on a coaching course
His star pupil will now be the headline attraction at a show the club is to stage at the TA Centre in Bulwell on Saturday April 20. Ring O’Dowd on 07800 956984 for tickets.
