A DRAMATIC final for the HUCKNALL EPA POOL LEAGUE’S singles championships resulted in agonising heartache for Dean Brittain.
The 31-year-old Spot-On Low-C star had reached the final in his first season in the competition.
And he looked all set to cause an upset when fighting back from 3-0 and 4-2 down against seasoned campaigner Nidge Orton (Royal British Legion A), who has won the title before.
With the score at 4-4, it all revolved around the final leg. And when potting his three remaining yellows, Brittain had just the black to seal victory.
But he rattled the jaws of the pocket, leaving a simple task for Orton to snatch a 5-4 win.
The final of the league’s pairs championship will be between Empire A duo Dave Wainwright and Steve Wood and Royal British Legion B’s Malc Grocock and Dean Dymock next Wednesday night (June 6).
In the semis, Wainwright and Wood hammered husband-and-wife team Andrea and Roger Green (Station Hotel B) 4-0, while Grocock and Dymock battled back from 2-0 down to beat Ryan Orton and individual rankings table champion Tim McShane (Royal British Legion A) 3-2.
