Another night of marked improvement almost earned HUCKNALL AND LINBY DOLPHINS a trophy in the one-off Mary Davies Gala at the Water Meadows Complex in Mansfield.
After some fabulous performances in closely-fought races, Dolphins finished only 12 points from second position. Their tally of five wins, four runners-up spots, eight third places and ten personal-best (PB) times left them in a respectable fourth overall.
Said a club spokesman: “It was a really enjoyable night with some great performances yet again. We were second at the halfway point, so a little gutted to miss out on a trophy!”
Two of Dolphins’ victories were achieved by 12-year-old Bella Sheridan, who is in the form of her life. Sheridan grabbed gold in the 14-and-under 100m breaststroke, clocking a PB time, and in the 12-and-under 50m freestyle. She was also third in the open 100m freestyle, swimming two age ranges above herself.
Nine-year-old Isaac Bennison added to his recent triumphs by winning the ten-and-under 50m butterfly in a PB, while fellow nine-year-old Millie Dickens swam a storming 50m backstroke to bag another first place.
The wins were rounded off by junior boys’ captain Lynden Johnson, who raced home in the 12-and-under 50m butterfly and also finished third in the 50m backstroke (PB).
The runners-up were led by eight-year-old debutant Zak Frisby, who showed confidence and speed in the ten-and-under 50m freestyle.
Super seconds were also taken by Gabe Moth (12-and-under 50m freestyle), Francis Dermody (ten-and-under 50m breaststroke) and Mark Turner (14-and-under 100m backstroke).
Moth and Turner (PB) picked up thirds too, along with 11-year-old Lauren Daft (PB), nine-year-old Hannah Bennison, 17-year-old Jordan Fretwell and the 14-and-under boys’ relay team of Turner, Johnson, Moth and Mason Sims. The remaining PBs were recorded by Fretwell, Sims, nine-year-old Joseph Lilley and 11-year-old Libby Brandham.
RESULT -- Sutton 180 points, Mansfield 148, Swadlincote 147, DOLPHINS 136, Deepings 120.
