Prolific goalscorer Rachael Endy played most of the match in goal as HUCKNALL LADIES struggled against Boldmere in their latest Midland Water Polo League match.
Regular young ‘keeper Naya Patel sustained a hand injury when pulling off a save from a hard shot during the second quarter of the match. So Endy took up position between the posts for the rest of the action.
Sadly, she couldn’t prevent Hucknall sliding to an 8-6 defeat against an older and more experienced Boldmere side.
They got off to a slow start and despite several smart saves by Patel, the home side found themselves 4-0 adrift by the end of the first quarter.
Two goals from Stacey Roe steadied the ship and actually enabled rallying Hucknall to win the second quarter.
But the comeback could not be sustained in an action-packed third session because although Rachel O’Keefe, Lucy Johnson and Millie Stewart all found the net, the West Midlands visitors netted four goals of their own.
An early goal in the final quarter by youngster India Wilkinson raised Hucknall hopes, but their hard work came to nothing as Boldmere held on.
