Rampant Rolls hit six

Hucknall Rolls Leisure warmed up for this Saturday’s Senior Cup clash with local rivals Linby CW with a resounding 6-0 thrashing of Awsworth Villa in the NSL Senior Division.

This was just what was needed to inspire the players after the sudden departure of top goalscorer Andy Start next week’s opponents.

Given the role as main goal-getter, Matt Rick delivered in fine style, bagging a superb hat-trick. Ash Marshall bagged a brace with the final goal going to Greg Conn.

Both teams vied for superiority in the first 15 minutes. Awsworth looked the better team but neither side were making any real inroads.

From then on it was all Rolls, totally dominant in every position and going into the break three goals to the good.

Again Awsworth came out of the block stronger in the opening minutes of the second-half, Jake Pearson making a great double save at his near post to thwart the Awsworth attack.

Rolls began to exert their control, as per the first-half, adding another three unanswered goals much to the delight of supporters and management alike.

Most pleasing for the coaching staff was a much-needed clean sheet, coupled with the footballing performance Rolls had been looking for in recent weeks.

Jack Allen just shaded the man-of-the-match award although several others were close contenders,

Rolls: Pearson, Hume, Short (c), Duncan, Tolley, Conn, Brookes, Allen, Betteridge, Rick, Marshall.
