A LOCAL-derby final in the under-9s section of the Priory Celtic tournament saw HUCKNALL RANGERS come out on top against rivals ROLLS-ROYCE LEISURE BLUE.
Rangers, who are managed by new Eastwood Town coach Jamie Brough and Kevin Orange, showed their class by beating some of the best junior teams in the district.
After progressing from the group stages on goal difference, Rangers were confident in the quarter-finals against Carlton and a goal in each half - the first from the penalty spot from Callum Orange and the second from Cameron Welsh - sealed a place in the last four.
There Rangers met a strong Clifton team and the opening stages saw a succession of missed chances.
It wasn’t until midway through the second half that the deadlock was broken as a solid tackle from Spencer Kent saw the ball threaded to Harley Shooter, whose cross wasn’t dealt with and skipper Jude Brough tapped home.
Rangers maintained their advantage thanks to solid defending from Vaughn Pincott and Max Richardson and a terrific save in the closing stages from Liam Dawson.
In the final, despite Rolls making the better start, the showpiece remained goalless at the interval and it was Rangers who made their move in the second period.
A tackle by Joshua Vere put Orange through on goal and he made no mistake with a cool finish. The seal was put on the victory when Shooter ran the length of the pitch before crossing for Vere, who found space before side-footing into the net.
