JUST when their season looked to be fizzling out, HUCKNALL ROLLS LEISURE surprised all and sundry by playing some of their best football for months.
Rolls triumphed 2-0 over an Attenborough side just above them in the Notts Senior League, Senior Division table.
And there was little doubt they were well worth the win, particularly in the first half, which they dominated and should have put the game out of sight.
Rolls played some excellent stuff, with Kyle McDermott, Duncan Osbourne and Billy Brooks all prominent. But they had just the one goal to show for their efforts — centre-back Ash Marshall rising at the far post to nod home a corner that was swung in from the left.
The second half was tighter, with the football not so free-flowing. But new goalkeeper Jake Pearson, who has been recruited from AFC Hucknall, had only one save to make — when getting down well to palm away a shot that was heading for the corner of the net.
Rolls sealed the points 15 minutes from the end when substitute Daniel Poole combined well down the right with Anthony Wallis and showed terrific awareness to pick out McDermott, who headed home at the far post.
Brooks, Osbourne and young Joe Hunt, who starred in a new-look defensive partnership, all vied for the man-of-the-match award.
But it was shaded by Marshall, who has settled in well on his return to the club from Central Midlands League strugglers Radford.
