A LAST-minute goal condemned HUCKNALL ROLLS LEISURE to a second defeat inside three weeks to an ordinary Magdala Amateurs side in the Notts Senior League’s Senior Division.
The score was locked at 2-2 when a hopeful through-ball dissected the Rolls backline and was misjudged by Rolls goalkeeper Mark Rollson, allowing John Hyman to lob him for the winner.
The 3-2 defeat followed a 1-0 reverse at the hands of the same side earlier this month. And it dropped The Rollers into the bottom half of the table.
Deservedly so too after a performance in which they were limp and lifeless for the umpteenth time this season.
They did take the lead in the 37th minute when Kyle McDermott beat his man wide on the left, advanced along the by-line and pulled the ball back for Andy Start to tap home at the far post.
But the advantage lasted only 30 seconds as Hyman was allowed a free header to meet a cross from the left for Magdala’s equaliser.
The visitors then went 2-1 up 13 minutes into the second half with a goal by Mark Curry. And although Rolls showed some semblance of character to level ten minutes from the end when young midfielder Greg Conn forced the ball home at the back stick after a half-cleared corner had been kept alive, it was disappointing to see them fail to push on and win it.
