Woodhouse Giants RUFC finished the game strongly at local rivals Creswell Crusaders and won 32-26.
From the off, the Giants were the better side, constantly driving back Cresswell until the inevitable happened and Marcus Fisher found space to score in the corner, though the conversion failed
Giants kept Cresswell in their own half for most of the first 40, allowing prop Darren Marshall to take advantage of Cresswell’s inexperience and put the ball down at the back of a Creswell ruck in their own goal. Again the conversion attempt failed.
Woodhouse did not rest there with scrum half Craig Worboys finding space to touch down under the posts, Marcus Fisher this time securing the easy conversion points.
Cresswell increased the pace and managed to catch the Giants sleeping, their inside centre crashing through the line unsupported to score under the posts for a converted try .
The second half saw the Giants continue to score, with excellent running support from the Sherrif brothers, allowing Callum to add to his season’s try tally, the conversion attempt unsuccessful in the pre-storm wind.
Cresswell were not to be the pushover they were at the last meeting and came back with three further tries from excellent running play, two converted.
Skipper Jay Adams fired the Giants up once more and a ball kicked into the hands of replacement No.8 Daniel Dykes saw him charge from his own 22 and through Cresswell to score an impressive converted try in the corner .
The scores were now too close at 29-26, the Giants needed to secure the win, and the pack charged the Creswell line, driving them back and allowing returning veteran stand-off Richard Brown, back from his 30 day ban, seize the opportunity to place a successful 30m drop goal straight between the posts.
