Talented Katie follows in netball steps of her mum

NETBALL skills clearly run in the family at the Cresswell household, of Nottingham Road, Hucknall.

Mum Karen is a renowned, award-winning coach. Now her 14-year-old daughter, Katie, has proved her worth after winning selection for the East Midlands Talent Academy.

Katie was one of about 60 girls from across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire to be nominated for a day of trials at Loughborough University.

And considering the squad comprises the best 20 under-17s from the region, she did amazingly well to be picked for her age.

Katie, who goes to the National Church Of England Academy on Annesley Road, learned her netball with the Hucknall Town junior club, run by Jo Cantrill.

She moved clubs last year to develop her talent further and now plays for the Nottingham City Allstars under-16s side, who are unbeaten this year and top the First Division of the Notts Ladies Netball League.

Katie still trains at Hucknall Town every Monday night and is also a member of the Notts county academy squad.

At National, she is captain of the school team who have not lost a match for three years!
